Astro Boy

Astro Boy may have flames shooting out from his feet, but cancel that call to the podiatrist-those are rocket jets. A child turned robot, Astro Boy (voiced by Charlie and the Chocolate Factory's Freddie Highmore) is the hero of this likable if predictable kids' film, which is based on a Japanese comic book character who later migrated to TV cartoons. Plucky and apple-cheeked, the computer-animated Astro Boy has the plastic beatitude of a Jeff Koons sculpture. Chaperoning adult cinemaphiles will be amused when other robots, upon seeing him, begin chanting, "One of us! One of us!"-a direct lift from Freaks, a 1932 horror classic.
